The Gothic Movement arose from the increasing amounts of architecture throughout Europe. It took place in the 1100's (Gothic Art). The label, (gothic) is used in the modern days to characterize any form of art based on the pointed arc. Gothic art is mostly considered structurally, for example, buildings with dramatic pointed arcs. "Lion from a Frieze" is an exception to this generalization. This work of art was painted on the interior walls of the chapter house of the monastary at San Pedro de Arlanza in Spain (picture on left). When looked at closely, one would notice that the image is a lion, with the face of a mustached man.
