In December of 1994, three explorers discovered the Chauvet Cave in Southern France. The remains and bones were not the only remarkable things found in the cave. These explorers also noticed artwork along the walls of the caves. Many of the images found in the cave were created with red and black ink. The artists of this time period are still unknown since it is only estimated that the paintings were done in the year 3000 B.C. In the most popular work of art from Chauvet Cave, there is an impressive amount of detail considering the time period and lack of proper equipment. The most popular drawings in the cave were of animals, specifically bears and horses (Chauvet Cave).
